As you are aware, SIGA’s Board and leadership made the decision to suspend our operations on Monday, March 16 to protect the health and safety of our team members, guests, and local communities.
Since then, Premier Moe has declared a state of emergency for the province and, subsequently, issued a Public Health Order requiring SIGA to close all casinos until further notice as a result of the public health threat of the COVID-19 virus. Therefore, we will have no alternative but to continue to suspend operations at all SIGA facilities until SIGA advises otherwise.
We regret the impact this situation will have on you, our team members, as well as our guests and communities. We are working to minimize any hardships created for you and our beneficiaries during our temporary closures.
During these difficult times, SIGA immediately provided all employees with a two-week paid leave effective March 17, 2020, to ensure you can focus on taking care of yourselves and your families. Benefits have continued for those who are eligible for them during this paid leave.
As of April 1, 2020 employees will be placed on public health emergency leave without pay. The last day paid will be March 31, 2020 and as of this date, all pay and applicable allowances will stop. A Record of Employment (ROE) will be processed during the week of March 30, 2020 and submitted directly to Service Canada.
We encourage you to apply for Employment Insurance (EI) benefits on or after March 31, 2020 using March 31 as your last date worked. Employees will remain on leave until the Public Health Order has been lifted by the province.
Each SIGA employee will receive a letter through the mail with additional information and next steps.

You should apply for EI on or after March 31, 2020, even if SIGA has not yet issued your ROE. An electronic ROE is being submitted from our payroll department to Service Canada directly on your behalf. SIGA does not provide copies of your ROE; you can find a copy of your ROE on your Service Canada account.
Please note: If you are applying for EI Sickness Benefits as a result of being ill, quarantined, or due to a member being quarantined as a result of the Covid-19, you must notify SIGA’s HR Call Center (info. on p. 4) to request an amended ROE from our payroll department.

An HR Call Center has been created to support and assist you with any questions that you may have with respect to your final pay, applying for Employment Insurance, providing SIGA with any updated mailing addresses or personal phone numbers where we may reach you, Records of Employment, or information on SIGA’s Benefits, Pension, or EFAP services.
This HR Call Center will be available for all employees commencing Wednesday, March 25, 2020 and will be open Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

SIGA has also created a private Facebook group called ‘SIGA HR Call Center’ to provide up to date information about how this closure affects employees. To join the private group, search ‘SIGA HR Call Center’ on Facebook and click ‘join.’ You will be asked to provide your legal name, along with your position and name of your Manager. Once the administrator verifies your identity, you will be added to the group.
